15 Tips for new real estate agents to succeed

At ShowIT Solutions we are THE FUTURE OF REAL ESTATE AGENTS ON DEMAND so we want to share with you 15 tips for new real estate agents to succeed.

1. Interview at Different Firms

Do you think you’re ready to start selling listings now that you have your license? Not so fast, my friend!

Your first step should be to find an office, brokerage or firm to join that fits with your goals. This is a very important and commonly overlooked step.

Don’t simply focus on the commission split. Instead, think about the things that matter most in getting your career off on the right foot, such as educational opportunities, training programs and resources.

2. Develop a Strong Work Ethic

Real estate is a demanding industry that requires dedication and hard work. As a new real estate agent, it’s important to develop a strong work ethic and be willing to put in the time and effort necessary to succeed. Successful real estate agents know that the harder they work, the more successful they will be.

3. Set Realistic Goals

Setting realistic goals is critical to your success as a real estate agent. It’s important to set achievable goals that will motivate you and help you measure your progress. Your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART). Setting goals will give you direction and help you stay focused.

4. Build a Strong Network

Building a strong network is essential to your success in real estate. Connect with other real estate agents, industry professionals, and potential clients to expand your network and increase your opportunities. Attend industry events and participate in local organizations to build relationships and gain exposure.

5. Discover Your Brand

Your new career title is realtor. But who are you as a realtor?

What property type is your niche? What age group? Do you think you can be hip and better connect with millennials? Or do your interests and activities more closely align with an older generation?

Your brand is who you are as an agent and business person. It also impacts how you present yourself as a person and in your marketing.

You can’t begin to sell yourself until you decide who you’re selling.

6. Market yourself in your area

Familiarize yourself with your area by engaging with property owners to discover potential real estate opportunities. Market yourself in this area by mailing flyers and postcards that advertise your services, knocking on doors to introduce yourself in person and putting up yard signs. This can help you increase your visibility, generate leads and develop a steady stream of real estate work. It can also help you understand what properties may become available in the future and get an idea of what your competition is doing to market themselves.

7. Develop a Strong Online Presence

Once you figure out who you are as an agent, what your brand is and through which avenues you want to market, it’s time to … market yourself!

Create a logo. Get fresh business cards. Create a professional email account. Create Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn Profiles.

Remember: Don’t skimp on marketing. The more professional and eye-catching it is, the more eyes will catch it.

8. Develop a marketing plan

As you begin your new career as a real estate agent, it is important to allocate part of your budget toward marketing expenses and develop a plan that allows you to advertise your services across various media. Your marketing plan can include a professional website in addition to a strong social media presence, print materials like flyers and brochures, yard signs and networking events.

You may also explore the possibility of using television and radio ads, billboards, email marketing, newspaper ads and other marketing materials. By diversifying your marketing approach, you can reach more potential buyers and sellers, which may help you grow your business faster.

9. Focus on Customer Service

Providing exceptional customer service is essential to building a strong reputation in real estate. Focus on building relationships with clients and providing them with the best possible experience. Respond to inquiries promptly, keep clients informed, and go above and beyond to meet their needs.

10. Be Persistent

Real estate is a competitive industry, and success often requires persistence and determination. Be willing to persevere through challenges and setbacks to achieve your goals. Keep a positive attitude and stay motivated, even when things get tough.

11. Prospect, Prospect, Prospect

Different real estate agents consider different things the lifeblood of their business.

For some, it’s all about marketing. For others, it’s more about putting forth all of their effort into prospecting for new clients. Both are important, but which of those two areas (and others) you decide to put more effort into is completely up to you.

Regardless, make sure you spend a lot of time prospecting – especially at the outset of your career. Cold call, attend community events and put up fliers. Do everything you can to get your name and brand out into the world.

Find a mentor

As a new real estate agent, consider finding a mentor who can help you navigate the industry, offer you advice and make you feel more confident. Identify a more experienced real estate agent within your brokerage or area who gets along with you well. Then, ask them if they would be able to mentor you as you’re getting started in your career.

Make sure they know why you are asking them to mentor you by explaining what you admire or respect about them as a real estate agent and what you hope to learn. You may even consider offering a small gift, like a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates, to show your appreciation. Once you have a mentor, be considerate of their time, but also be prepared to ask them questions. Here are a few questions to get you started:

12. Hone your communication skills

As a real estate agent, you may use verbal and written communication skills frequently. Real estate agents often explain complex legal terms and tax documents to their clients in a way that is easy for them to understand. Whether you’re negotiating an offer for a seller, explaining the buying process to a first-time homebuyer or networking with other real estate professionals, having strong communication skills can be crucial

Practice active listening, consider your body language and be present in the moment to hone your communication skills. You can also ask your clients what communication method they prefer, such as phone calls, text messages or emails, and adapt to their preferences to strengthen your communication with them.

13. Invest in yourself

As a new real estate agent, invest in yourself by attending seminars and continuing your education. Some online courses that may help you succeed as a real estate agent include social media marketing, finance and general business classes. You can also get involved with local networking groups and stay up to date on the latest real estate trends by signing up for newsletters from different real estate websites. If you’re a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), take advantage of the association’s research and articles by setting aside time to read them.

14. Embrace Technology

Technology is an integral part of the real estate industry. Embrace new technologies and tools to streamline your workflow and enhance your services. Use online platforms to manage your transactions, automate your marketing, and communicate with clients.
